Today I wanted to take a moment to share something about the nonprofit I serve, The Give Back Yoga Foundation.
November is National Entrepreneurs’ Month in addition to a dozen other themes including Give Back Yoga in November.
(I’ve taken to calling it Yovember :-) and the idea is entirely my own.)
Yoga is a powerful tool and life practice for learning self-regulation, which helps us to manage our life better.
The practice of yoga does this by training and activating the parasympathetic nervous system, which is the rest and digest system as opposed to the sympathetic nervous system, the fight for flight system.
That’s why many long-time yoga practitioners seem so chilled out. We’ve put in many hours on the mat and its affected our nervous system in a positive way.
That’s also why yoga is especially useful for healing people who have suffered traumas. Whether it be war, abuse, addictions, illnesses, or disorders.
The Give Back Yoga Foundation exists to support and fund yoga teachers in all traditions who want to bring this healing practice to underserved and under-resourced populations.
This year during the month of November over 300 yoga teachers and studios across the country are holding donation classes to support Give Back Yoga.
I attended one last night at Firefly Yoga in Central Florida and it was a beautiful experience.
